Abstract
This study uses the scientific literature as a source of data to model the contribution‐spans of scientists in the field of cochlear implants. The authors provide estimates of the probability that a scientist will contribute to the field for a given length of time and the conditional probability of a scientist ceasing to contribute to the field after having endured a given number of years. The authors also examine the significance of several variables in explaining the length of scientists' contribution spans.
