Abstract

This article evaluates recent benzene and VOC emissions data from pouring and cooling to develop better emissions models and to determine the influence of foundry process variables on emissions rates. First, it evaluates the accuracy of different process indices for emissions rates. It compares the estimation accuracy of emissions rates based on: tons of iron poured, tons of sand processed and pounds of combustibles. Second, it evaluates the influence of foundry operating characteristics on emissions from a green sand iron foundry. Specifically, the influence of sand to metal ratio, seacoal content and cores on emissions rates is evaluated.
