Abstract

This work presents static and dynamic testing and modeling of PZT-5H T-beam actuators. The T-beam boundary condition include the effects of imperfect clamping. Nonlinear effects on the electromechanical properties of soft PZT under strong fields are considered. Analytical models of static displacement and blocking force and the frequency response function including strain rate damping are derived and validated with experimental results. The experimentally tested 1 mm thick and 2 cm long T-beam produced 46 mm of tip displacement, 5.6 mN of blocking force, and had a primary resonance of 1.42 kHz.
