Abstract

A series-tuned transcutaneous energy transmission (TET) system for use with an implanted mechanical circulatory assist device was evaluated. Some modifications to the TET, namely, increasing power transmitted, shielding of EM fields, and establishing a bidirectional communications link, were investigated. It was found that each of these modifications can lead to changes in current levels used to control system operation. Thus, a unified approach is required for TET system modification that includes adjustment of control functions.
