Abstract
A testis-specific gene located distal to Qa-2 was cloned from mouse chromosome 17. Although we still do not have any formal proof, several lines of evidence suggest that this gene might encode a testis-specific Pgk-2 isozyme. First, the tissue distribution of this gene is identical with that of Pgk-2. Second, the size of the 1-1-1 testicular transcript roughly coincides with that of the human X-linked PGK1. Third, 1-1-1 maps, like Pgk-2, distal to Qa-2. And fourth, in a preliminary survey of classical inbred strains, 1-1-1 detects restriction fragment length polymorphism concordant with the known allelic distribution of Pgk-2. DNA sequence information will provide a definite identification of this gene.
