Abstract

To the Editor: We would like to report our experience in New Hampshire with a hitherto unreported phenomenon: head trauma secondary to moose-motorcycle collisions. At 9:30 p.m. on May 5, 1981, a 17-year-old man riding a motorcycle struck a 300-lb (136-kg) cow moose. He was found unconscious at the scene and was transferred to our institution. Evaluation revealed a basilar skull fracture, purposeful movements, and groaning verbalization, without eye opening, in response to noxious stimuli. He had a right hemiparesis, and CT scanning showed a small left intracerebral hematoma without midline shift. The patient was followed up with serial neurologic. . .
