Abstract
We model and solve the vendor selection problem in two steps. In the first step, technique of fuzzy quality function deployment is used to transform the qualitative factors into quantitative information. These qualitative factors are then combined with quantitative factors to be used in a multi-objective formulation. Price, lead-time and quality are the three conflicting objectives in the multi-objective formulation and the various qualitative factors are modeled as constraints in the model. Technique of compromise programming is used to solve the multi-objective problem. The methodology is illustrated using a numerical example.
