Abstract
A finite difference method of analyzing actuators for electrostrictive and piezoelectric materials is discussed. Recent analysis of devices by numerical techniques and applications to electromechanical systems are demonstrated. Operating parameters and ceramic systems for multiphase devices which show performance criteria for actuator applications are proposed. Examples of the numerical treatment of specific devices such as axial positioners and linear resonators are included.
