Abstract

This study investigates the detection of discontinuities in piping using a multimode technique. The potential benefits of a guided wave inspection technique for piping inspection have been well documented. A multimode approach was executed via a linear array comb transducer. A linear array comb transducer was used to generate multiple modes. Detection of discontinuities in 101.6 mm (4 in.) carbon steel insulated piping using the comb transducer was performed on a demonstration piping system.
