Abstract

Growing up, I spent my summer days at my grandparents’ house. A small ceramic bank in the shape of a dog sitting outside his doghouse stood on the dresser in their bedroom. Each night before bed time, my grandfather would empty his pockets of spare change into the bank. He always kept an eye out for wheat pennies. They would go into the bank, but would never be spent. I loved that heavy little bank and would sometimes dump out the coins and marvel at how much money it seemed to hold.
