Abstract

Replication is the molding of materials on various length scales using removable template or master. The interplay between the grain size of Pt and Au mesoporous replicas to those of the monodisperse colloidal silica template was investigated. The replicas were prepared from a templated of pelletized monodisperse colloidal silica. Transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction were used to image the metal replicas. Results reveal striking differences between the porous Au and Pt materials in terms of both grain structure and overall quality.
