Abstract

Nanostructured, ion-containing polymeric materials have been used effectively to elucidate new concepts and performance benchmarks for fuel cell and water treatment membranes. Our group has been involved in creating new synthetic systems and developing measurements to probe the fundamental mechanisms of ion and water transport in polymer membranes. Through this work we hope to provide fundamental guidance on the mechanisms that govern the performance of these materials and to develop principals that lead to the design of next-generation materials.
