Abstract

Natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery is a disruptive concept proposed at the beginning of this millennium with potential to transform many surgical procedures for future. Despite the initial enthusiasm, progress has been slow in adopting NOTES to clinical practice. New procedures like POEM or per oral endoscopic myotomy and full thickness endoscopic resection have become main stream procedures demonstrate that NOTES is taking roots. Several operating platforms are in the works for endoluminal and transluminal surgery. The authors review the details of common NOTES procedures and significant platforms currently in development.
