A new algorithm for analyzing two-phase pipeline network is presented. This algorithm can also be applied to single-phase networks. The algorithm is tested by implementing the Beggs-Brill's method for gas-liquid flow in a single pipeline. The simplicity of the algorithm makes it easy to implement any other two-phase flow method as well. This algorithm requires very simple data input structure. No flow direction pre-assignment is necessary. The computer program accepts either pressure or flow rate specifications at the supply/demand nodes and is able to solve for pressure distribution, flow rates, and liquid hold-up throughout the network system. Simple guidelines for defining a well-posed pipeline network problem are developed. The guidelines help to simplify and reduce complex networks into simple ones for ease of analysis and elimination of ambiguities in problem specification. Examples are presented to illustrate the applications of this new algorithm both in analyzing and designing two-phase pipeline networks.
