Abstract

A new catalyst system for the synthesis of linear α-olefins from ethylene was developed using zirconium(IV) ethoxide and ethylaluminum dichloride. The addition of diethylzinc significantly improved the activity of the system. The addition of acetylacetone decreased branching, resulting in α-olefins that are > 99% linear. The α-olefins chain length from this system are C4-C30.
