Abstract
Bustin' a move: Diffusion of NO gas into crystals of [(TPP)Fe(H 2O)]SO 3CF 3 (1) results in nitrosylation of half the number of molecules to generate [(TPP)Fe(NO)(H 2O)]SO 3CF 3 (2). This nitrosylation reaction in the solid phase produces a dramatic movement of the porphyrins to accommodate the NO ligands. The presence of both molecules in the same crystal allows a reliable comparison of their geometric data. TPP=tetraphenylporphyrin; C black, N blue, O red.
