Abstract

The nondestructive testing (NDT) and structural health monitoring in the Department of Engineering science and Mechanics at Penn State University are discussed. The laboratory provides science and technology for national security, economic competitiveness and quality of life through education, scientific discovery, and transition to application. The NDT program focused on theoretical and experimental aspects of ultrasonic NDT and structural health monitoring. Students at all levels work together on a variety of different topics, including such current topcis as sensors design, bulk and and guided wave propagation mechanics.
