Abstract

The nonlinear dynamics of a coherent laser polarization conversion process in nemantic liquid crystal films was investigated. Two-beam coupling between the incident polarized laser and its orthogonally polarized noise component scattered by the director axis fluctuations was found to be mediated by this effect. The basic equations were used to derive a complete model for the director dynamics. The studies revealed the existence of complex, time-, and intensity-dependent dynamics of the director motion, such as oscillations and various bifurcations.
