Numerical simulations of partially premixed turbulent combustion

Abstract

Thrbulent flame propagation through non-homogeneous reactant mixtures is investigated using high-resolution two-dimensional numerical simulation, including detailed chemical kinetics and molecular transport. Systematic variations in the distribution of reactant composition are imposed, and the effect of these variations on the primary propagating flame, secondary post-flame reaction, and pollutant formation are analyzed. In this manner, new fundamental insight into partially premixed turbulent flame propagation is generated and information relevant to modeling practical combustion systems is developed.
