Abstract
The government in the UK has taken several steps in order to address the issues pertaining to the obesity that is considered to be the top nutritional concern for the country. The issue of obesity and its associated chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and even some cancers are the result of poor food choices and insufficient physical activity. The schools in the US have been federally mandated to implement wellness policies and many have removed vending machines with soda and candy. The health care bill may require all foods sold through vending machines to provide some level of nutritional information that is visible outside the machine. The FDA renounced the use of nutrient-profiling health symbols and other healthy icons/indicators on the front of food packages designed to provide quick nutritional assessments for concerned consumers until the clarity and usage of such devices has been investigated. The FDA encourages the use of naturally-occurring nutrients such as nuts, dried fruits, leathers, and yogurt in the confectionery products.
