Abstract

Optical studies of type-II ZnTe/Cd1-xMnxSe superlattices show two types of interband transitions: (i) radiative type-II transitions between electrons confined in the Cd1-xMnxSe and holes confined in the ZnTe layers, and (ii) strongly absorptive type-I transitions associated with the formation of novel excitons involving confined electrons and above-barrier holes, both of which are localized in the Cd1-xMnxSe layers. The spatial localization of the states participating in both types of transitions is identified by magneto-optical spectroscopy.
