Abstract
During the 1970’s, switched capacitor circuits were invented for realizing high precision monolithic filters. Although many of the theoretical concepts had been known for some time, it was the combination of these concepts and new advances in IC technology that caused widespread excitement and rapid advancement. This paper discusses some of the key developments in the theory and practice of switched capacitor circuits. Emphasis is placed on the sequence of important technological breakthroughs that helped advance the state of the art in this field.
