Abstract
We summarize the literature of olfactory genomics within the largest insect order, Coleoptera, through an overview of the major insect chemosensory gene families that emphasizes their evolutionary history, genomic organization, and function. A rapid acceleration in research over the past decade has yielded an abundance of sequence data and a phylogenetic framework for most of the chemosensory gene families. However, current research persists within a relatively thin slice of beetle diversity, and with a pronounced scarcity of functional characterization.
