Abstract
Instantaneous electromagnetic response of material media violates causality. We delineate the constitutive relations of general, linear, homogeneous bianisotropic media for time-dependent electromagnetic fields and we provide a clarification of the relation between time-dependent and frequency-dependent field formulations.
