Abstract
Derivatization methods for analysis of single cell components by capillary electrophoresis with laser-induced fluorescence detection are reviewed. Recent advances have lead to the use of this technique for the identification of amino acids and proteins in many different cell lines ranging in size from 8 to 140 um Pre-column, on-column, and post-column methods of derivatization are examined in order to determine which results in the least amount of sample handling and dilution leading to better detection limits for the analytes of interest.
