Abstract
In the age of 3D printing, the constraints applied to engineering design are fundamentally different compared to the traditional methods of decades past. In this commentary, Nicholas Meisel describes his experience teaching students to “unlearn” the concepts that push us to design the same things over and over and instead use restrictive and opportunistic Design for Additive Manufacturing in concert to realize more creative designs that are viable for modern manufacturing.
