Abstract

With the advent of arthroscopy, treatment options for meniscus tears have been significantly modified over the last 10 years. Arthroscopic techniques have evolved from diagnostic procedures alone to partial meniscectomy and even meniscus repair. Nevertheless, the authors believe that there is an important continiung role for open meniscus repair in conjunction with arthroscopic documentation of suitability. This article reviews meniscus structure and function, and emphasizes selection criteria, techniques, aftercare, and results of open meniscus repair.
