Abstract
A new optical cross-connect based on wavelength division (WDM) and space division multiplexing is proposed. The system benefits from the simplicity of the WDM structures for cross-connects but avoids the challenges of the limited wavelength resources by reusing the wavelengths. With the designs for its implementation, the optical cross-connect can be highly integrated, ultra-high speed, and reliable system.
