Abstract
A new optical cross connect based on WDM and space-division multiplexing is proposed. Optical space-division switches are used to interconnect WDM active routing cross connects to make a large scale optical cross connect employing wavelength reuse. The system can be implemented without the technological challenges faced by simple, WDM optical cross con-nects. The switching capacity of the system, constructed presently, can be over one terabit per second at a line rate of 10 Gb/s. 1041-1135/9504.00
