Abstract

This paper presents a study of an optimal sliding mode Gaussian (OSG) controller implemented in the hydraulic modeling program SIMSEN for Load Frequency Control (LFC). System Identification is used to obtain a dynamic model of the turbine in SIMSEN and is subsequently used in an observer to generate the estimated state vector and to design a sliding mode controller. Results are compared with those of traditional PI and LQG designs. It is shown that the OSG control method improves the system performance under a load disturbance.
