Optimal tool inspection intervals using a process control approach

Abstract

In machining operations, it is often necessary to remove a cutting tool for inspection and maintenance to reduce the probability of failure during machining. In this paper, a tool replacement model patterned after a cost model for the design of control charts is developed which yields inspection intervals of equal length.
