Abstract

The impact of varying optical and electrical filter bandwidths in 40 Gbit/s amplified spontaneous emission (ASE)-limited systems for varied alternate modulation formats and spectral efficiencies was studied. The results of sensitivity analysis showed that all modulation formats were more sensitive to filter parameters at narrow channel spacings. The results also suggested a range of optical and electrical bandwidth values that should be used to optimize the performance of the format.
