Abstract
Residual stresses are produced in laminated ceramic composites when they are cooled from elevated processing temperatures. An optimization approach is described to minimize these stresses. The optimization problem is formulated considering wear resistance, fracture toughness and delamination in the laminate. Several examples are solved to illustrate the approach.
