Abstract

This paper presents some initial inferences drawn from the application of fractal-type analysis to Ca- and Cu-catalyzed carbon gasification. The Ca- and Cu-catalyzed gasification reactivity of carbon in 0.1 MPa air was found to scale in fractal fashion with respect to the average size of the catalyst crystallites. Structure insensitive reactions are those for which DR = 2. Structure sensitive reactions, for which DR ≠ 2, are affected by morphological and/or surface chemical changes induced by crystallite size variations.
