Abstract

Effect of oxygen (O2) addition on water gas shift (WGS) and influence of temperature on oxygen-assisted water gas shift (OWGS) activity of ceria-supported bimetallic and monometallic catalysts were investigated in comparison with WGS activity under the same conditions. Addition of a small amount of oxygen effectively enhanced WGS, resulting in increase of both CO conversion and H2 production at optimized temperature range. Ceria-supported bimetallic catalysts, such as Pt-Cu and Pd-Cu, exhibited higher OWGS activity than corresponding monometallic catalysts while the superiority of bimetallic catalysts was not as evident in WGS. The OWGS on these catalysts is potentially applicable for the purpose of developing non-pyrophoric and compact fuel processor for fuel cells.
