Abstract
Shortly after Brown, Douglas and Fillmore introduced their interpretation of K-homology, it was pointed out by Paschke that the BDF groups are in fact the K-theory groups of a certain essential commutant algebra. This note describes a version of this construction which is appropriate for real and/or graded C*-algebras.
