Abstract

It's not accurate that patients in severe pain will have abnormal vital signs, according to a recently published study. In fact, these patients often have normal heart rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate. • Pain is not associated with abnormal vital signs. • Believe the patient's self-report of pain. • Ask every patient about their pain level using a numeric scale.
