Pediatric proximal tibial fractures with vascular compromise

Proximal tibia injuries in children range from benign green stick injuries to limb-threatening fracture dislocations. The unique anatomy of the pediatric physis guides the pattern of deformity with the force of the injury dictating the severity of the trauma. Goals of the treating physician include not only immediate fracture care but also an understanding of the long-term sequelae of this injury and how to manage subsequent limb deformity. Vascular injury, physeal injury, and nonorthopedic injuries all should be considered when treating pediatric proximal tibia fractures.
