Peer-developed and peer-led labs in general chemistry

For three years now, the University of Wisconsin-Richland Center and UW-Rock County, have been using student-developed and student-led labs in second semester general chemistry. Experiences at both campuses show that having students develop their own labs and then lead them enhances their laboratory performance. The students learned more about the experiments they proposed and led than they would about experiments set and led by the instructor. Furthermore, they benefited when peers led the labs through a more fluid discussion.
