Pennsylvania statewide agricultural emergency response training Program: A collaborative partnership with agromedicine, academic and community resources

Abstract

Objective:Farmers often receive emergency medical services from professionals with lit tle experience with the agricultural environment. Methods: The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture through the Pennsylvania Agromedicine Program initiated an approach to reduce geographic and financial barriers to safety training by form ing a partnership with the Pennsylvania Area Health Education Cen ter (AHEC). Results: The agricultural emergency response-training pro gram was delivered in fifteen dispersedsites; 211 completed the FARMEDIC course. Forty community organizations participated. Conclusions: Community partner ships with state wide entities with regional centers of feran effective organizational model to provide agricultural emergency response training for rural emergency medical services professionals and first responders that ad dresses the needs of both farm ers and health professionals.
