Abstract
The global market has shown the fragility of the Italian textile system based on small companies. Italy represents 16% of the textile world but 57% of the top band and 33% of the medium-high band. It is necessary to increase the size of businesses while at the same time continuing to occupy the top band by producing products with the creativity and taste typical of Italy. There is also significant room for growth for Italian firms in the medium-high band. Improvements could be made in merchandizing, more competitive pricing, more efficient service and perhaps partial relocation to Eastern Europe and North Africa.
