Abstract
The performance of the Watermark granular matrix sensor in sandy soils was evaluated. The Watermark grnaular matrix sensor (GMS) was an inexpensive technique and provided a continuous and indirect measurement of soil matric potential (SMP). The performance of calibration equations was compared to the mercury manometer-tensiometer measured SMP. Results showed that the GMS was used to estimate SMP from sensor resistance at potentials lower than -10 kPa and -11.5 kPa SMP in Dothan and Astatula sandy soils by using the calibration equations developed in the study.
