Abstract
The fluidization of a thin granular layer driven by modulated gas flow was studied. A sequence of well-defined transitions of patterns was discovered as the amplitude, the frequency of gas flow modulation, and the mean flow rate were varied. The pattern wavelengths was determined by the modulation frequency and mean flow velocity.
