Abstract

The purpose of the updated guidelines is to provide specialists, primarily, anesthesiologists and intensive care physicians with modern evidence-based approaches to the practical implementation and optimization of perioperative fluid therapy. In the preparation of the current document, the high quality scientific studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and the latest recommendations of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), the Association of Anesthesiologists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI), the European Society of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC), Surviving Sepsis Campaign, and the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) as well as other leading professional communities have been analyzed, localized and implemented. In the current guidelines, various aspects of preoperative preparation, monitoring of the effectiveness and safety of fluid therapy, perioperative infusion therapy, including the choice of crystalloids and colloids, as well as postoperative patient management, are reviewed and accompanied by comments. The criteria on the quality of medical care are presented.
