Abstract
The correlation between the coke quality with the nature of the feedstock was studied. The chosen feedstock was decant oil which has been hydrotreated at different levels, giving origin to six more decant oils, so-called decant oil hydrotreated versions. The hydrotreating implied the saturation of aromatic rings giving origin to hydroaromatics, cycloalkanes and alkanes. The blend of decant oil with coal was analyzed. The feedstock (decant oil alone or a blend of decant oil with coal) was heat treated using a laboratory-scale coker (tubing bomb). This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 230th ACS National Meeting (Washington, DC 8/28/2005-9/1/2005).
