Abstract
The relationship between the coke quality and the nature of the feedstock as well as a process developed to obtain a larger amount of semi-coke used to evaluate the potential end uses was investigated. It was found that the gas generation varied according to the nature of the feedstock and the pressure increased. The characterization of the semi-coke was carried out using a Zeiss Universal microscopy. The hardened samples were polished for reflected light microscopy using a series of grit papers and alumina polishing slurries. The results show that the different levels of hydrogenation of the original decant oil gave rise to six different decant oil samples whose chemical structure was different.
