Abstract
Pharmacology is the study of exogenous chemicals and their actions within the body. In the course of treating critical illness in children, the pediatric intensivist will utilize a broad variety of drugs and therapies. The mechanisms of drug delivery and effects on the body may be altered due to age, body composition, severity of illness, and modes of therapy. As such, an understanding of the effects of both age and illness on drug kinetics and dynamics is crucial to the practice of pediatric critical care medicine.
