Abstract
A novel compact multilayered composite right-/left-handed (CRLH) transmission line (TL), fabricated using low-temperature cofired ceramic (LTCC) technology, is demonstrated. In common with the conventional planar CRLH lines, the signal in the multilayered CRLH TL propagates along a defined path; however with the use of parallel-plate capacitors to create the series capacitances and loop inductors to create the shunt inductances, the size of the TL is significantly reduced compared to that of the planar CRLH TL. Phase-portraits in the near-field region as well as far-field patterns are used to verify the operation in both the left- and the right-handed frequency regions.
