Abstract

The trans-cis photoisomerization and 2+2 photocycloaddition of 4,4′-dialkoxystilbenes are studied. The stilbene chromophore of liquid crystalline polymer is aggregated both in solution and in spin cast thin film state. Irradiation of >300 nm lead to film crosslinking and ultraviolet-vis changes consistent with 2+2 photodimerization of the chromophores.
