Abstract
Recent advances in photodetector research were discussed. Impact-ionization-engineered avalanche photodiodes (APD) that operate at the wavelengths of interest for fiber optic applications were demonstrated. Technological advances in solar-blind ultraviolet PIN photodiodes and quantum dot infrared photodetectors (QDIP) were also discussed.
